Beauty Therapy is a hands on Profession. The job itself is physically demanding and often involves repetitive motions, awkward postures and pro longed standing. Full time working hours are typically 8 hours a day with a 1 hour lunch break if you're lucky. Here are 5 ways you can avoid work related Musculoskeletal disorders so that you remain healthy and happy at work.
1. STRETCH
Stretching throughout your day enables the joints and muscles to stay flexible and reduce muscle stiffness. Overtime you will improve your performance in physical treatments and increase your range of motion. Recently I booked a 60 minute Thai Massage at Layana Spa in Muswell Hill, London. The variety of stretches the Massage Therapist performed improved my mobility and released knots in my shoulders.
2. HYDRATE
Your body is made up of a number of systems and relies on live nutrient rich food and fresh water to keep it efficient and functioning at an optimal level. Therefore, very opportunity you get in your day to drink water, please do! If you think still water is boring, jazz it up with some slices of citrus fruit or make a smoothie instead as this can boost your energy levels too, promoting healthy blood and organs.
3. EXERCISE
Committing to a regular exercise routine that revolves around weight training and cardio improves muscle tone, muscle strength and bone density. Your Skeletal System is the scaffolding of your body, holding everything else together. Keeping this mechanism strong is paramount to your longevity in your profession. Aim to exercise for 30 minutes daily!
4. EAT
Food is fuel for your body. Eating live foods rich in vitamins and other benefits will keep your energy level high. Whereas, eating processed foods all the time can have a negative effect on your body. Another way of eating well is to find out your blood type which is apparently linked to your ancestral diet. Certain food you eat will be more or less beneficial depending on your blood type. Dr D'Adamo popularised eating according to your blood type in 1996 and wrote a book called 'Eat right 4 your type'. 5. REST
How much sleep are you enjoying every night? 6 to 8 hours is the standard amount of sleep one should get. You will wake up feeling renewed and happy that it's a new day. If you have a hard time winding down after a long day at work opt for a Calming Pillow Spray .It will ease you into a deep rest after you experience a relaxing bath or shower. Do not be afraid to set healthy boundaries before you rest. By putting your phone on Silent, Do not Disturb or Switching it off. Avoid sreen time before you rest too as this will calm down your nervous system and guarantee you a better night sleep.
You can also opt for Electrical Massagers to relax aching muscles.
